As this year draws to a close and we all start evaluating what we’ve accomplished and planning for our 2018 accomplishments, I want to take a minute to talk to you about setting your 1 goal for BNI this year.

Why just 1?

Because the Power of 1 is magic in BNI:

  1. One chapter education unit per week
  2. One chapter meeting per week
  3. One 1-2-1 per week
  4. One referral per week
  5. One visitor per member per month

If each of us is honest, there is at least 1 (if not 2) of these Power of 1 criteria that we aren’t consistently hitting. And if we aren’t hitting all of them, is it fair to assume other members of our chapter might not be either?

When you look at the list, it isn’t that big of a time commitment, maybe 5 hours at the most. So why don’t more of us hit this 1 Powerful Goal?

It’s a matter of committing to it each and every week. Just as you put your chapter meeting or a 1-2-1 meeting on your calendar, you need to also put your CEU time, your Referral time and your Visitor inviting time on the calendar. And then add 15-30 additional minutes for planning sometime before your weekly chapter or 1-2-1 meeting. Those extra minutes will really pay off in more effective meetings and profitable referrals.

If you are thinking, “where will I find 5 extra hours a week to do this?” I’ll tell you to take the leap of faith and spend your time doing this 1 Powerful thing. If you are consistent, you’ll see stronger relationships which will lead to better referrals (both giving and receiving) and you’ll be more efficient in your business because you’ll spend less time selling.
